My Top 5 Sidekicks That Brought The House Down.

A well-written Disney hero arc is truly magical. Frozen's Elsa, for example, goes from being ashamed of her special gift to becoming a self-assured queen — fabulous, and we're here for it. Can we, instead, discuss how many great best friends those heroes have? Whether the sidekick is a human, an animal, or an enchanted creature, without their best friends, our heroes would never have realized their dreams, found true love, defeated the bad guys, or found their "happily ever after."

Let's pay tribute to these unsung heroes by highlighting the best friends of some of our favorite animated Disney characters. They may surprise you with how selfless, loyal, and supportive they have been to your favorite characters. Continue reading for a definitive list of Disney's top 15 animated best friends. (Disclaimer: there are so many sidekicks that this list will undoubtedly be divisive.)

5. Jiminy Cricket From Pinocchio

Jiminy Cricket is not only Pinocchio's best friend, but also his conscience, guiding the puppet-turned-real-boy in the right direction. He is fashionable, amusing, and trustworthy. He loses patience with Pinocchio on occasion (who can blame him? ), but he still returns to help. In the end, he puts his differences aside and assists Pinocchio in realizing his lifelong ambition of becoming a real boy. If you ask us, that's some pretty good behavior!

4. Timon and Pumbaa From The Lion King

Timon and Pumbaa, the endearingly awkward duo, are the best friends you wish you had when things get tough. They keep Simba happy by teaching him "Hakuna Matata," one of Disney's most famous songs. When Simba was a young cub, this meerkat and warthog saved him from the vultures; later, they assisted Simba in defeating Scar and becoming King of Pride Rock. Simba asks them to stand with him at a special ceremony where he shows off his newborn lion cub to the animals because their relationship is so strong. They're both funny and faithful, which is a winning combination.

3. Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast

Mrs Potts, Cogsworth, Lefou, and the rest of the characters in Beauty and the Beast are all amazing side characters. But if I had to choose, Lumiere would be my favorite. On the one hand, he is a haughty showman who refuses to listen, but on the other, he is generous, kind, and a lot of fun. He surely has the best Disney sidekick song (with Under the Sea being a close second). Jerry Orbach's voice performance is one of the best ever, and he is merely charming throughout.

2. Genie From Aladdin

"You ain't never had a friend like me," the Genie sings, and he isn't wrong. This magical blue best friend is high on our list for a variety of reasons: he's hilarious, he can literally make your dreams come true, he's a great wingman, he gives sound moral advice, and, oh yeah, he'll break the rules to save your life in a pinch — like when he saves Aladdin from the depths of the sea when he's unconscious and can't use one of his three wishes. Is there anything else we can say?

1. Sebastian From The Little Mermaid

Of course, you know who my top number 1 pick is! Sebastian mr “kiss the girl”. Now Sebastian may appear to be King Triton's best friend at first, but he ultimately has Ariel's back. After all, he's only negative because he's trying to keep Ariel safe! When Ariel makes a deal with Ursula to trade her voice for human legs, Sebastian is there to help her create a romantic atmosphere and urge Eric to kiss her, eventually assisting her in finding true love. (Okay, the plot might have been a little more feminist, but it was 1989.)

Side Note: I do have to give it up for Dwayne Johnson for his musical piece, “You’re Welcome” in the movie Moana.
