The 5 Sistas' That Made You Feel The Holy Spirit In Hercules

Hello Readers, hope you're enjoying a nice warm and windy day outside. As you know from the last post that Enchantin Sounds was going "Disney" the whole month of March. So I thought out of the endless music Disney has, just what could I talk about to let my readers enjoy themselves. Then BOOM it hit me. Seeing how today is Sunday and people were coming from the church. I knew exactly what to talk about.

Ladies and Gents, I will now let you remembrance on one of the gods by the name of Hercules. Yes, the 1997 movie Hercules. The movie had a Rocky movie feel. Meaning that it was like a poor down-and-out kid who came to meet a manager/coach and trained hard to have fame, riches, and fans. We all know the movie, you don't need a recap because I'm not here to talk about Hercules per se. I'm here to talk about those five long-winded, soul grasping, gospel singing Muses. The storyline had the movie feeling like you were watching an underdog rise to the top, but the music had you feeling like you were in church.

The music if you couldn't tell had that stand up and praise him feeling. The slow parts had you sad and understanding while the fast had you bouncing and cheerful. I'm not one to bring the church into this, but that is what gospel music is. Well from what I'm hearing, That is what Black gospel music is. When that music hits it hits hard and makes you feel a holy spirit done came and took over your body just so it can dance. Those five Muses did just that with the 4-5 song they were giving. That is why today we will be talking about the Muses.

Well like any other good story, you have to understand the beginning of the Muses. Technically speaking, there are nine Muses, not five. In Greek mythology, only a couple was the daughters of Zeus and the others were also goddesses who came from other gods or goddesses who like to mix up with the normal people. These muses were not only goddesses of music, art, and poetry, but they were also blessed with grace and beauty. As you can see that these women were in charge of science, the people's memories, and gave inspiration to those who needed it. Just looking at the information you can see why Disney decided to have some of the main muses in the movie.

Here are the nine Muses from Greek mythology.

  • Calliope was the muse of epic poetry.

  • Clio was the muse of history.

  • Erato was the muse of love poetry.

  • Euterpe was the muse of music.

  • Melpomene was the muse of tragedy.

  • Polyhymnia was the muse of sacred poetry.

  • Terpsichore was the muse of dance.

  • Thalia was the muse of comedy.

  • Urania was the muse of astronomy.

In the movie they decided to go with five muses who are...

  • Calliope was the muse of epic poetry.

  • Clio was the muse of history.

  • Melpomene was the muse of tragedy.

  • Terpsichore was the muse of dance.

  • Thalia was the muse of comedy.

These five beautiful muses were used out of the nine because it is just easier to build character development with less. Would you pay four more when all you needed was just five real good singers? Plus the ones they use were understandable. some of the four they left out had similar but weaker powers. As you can see with the nine muses, it seems that maybe someone who gave these women powers didn't think it all the way through did they?

These are just characters from a movie, the voices behind them are what you should know. These singers came and put in work when they got that phone call one day. The soundtrack itself is (self)proclaim the best Disney soundtrack ever. The Black women who played the muses were Lillias White, Cheryl Freeman, Vanéese Y. Thomas, LaChanze, and Roz Ryan. I can honestly say that I don't go to church, but after hearing these women sang. Well, I still didn't go to church, but their voices to me were just so powerful. It sounded like it was easy to them like this is where they belong. I thought they were made for that part, but then I did some digging. Guess what I found out? I found that the songwriters originally wanted to have the Spice Girls as their number one choice. Even though you can't see it, I'm laughing way too hard right now. I am 29 years of age, I could have sworn that those girls were anything but gospel. This goes to show you that the first choice is not always the best. Let us thank whoever messed up their schedule.

Before I go, I want you to understand that since Disney made all the music gospel style. You should understand where you can find spiritual gospel music. Traditionally speaking, gospel music are found in black churches. That's why the muses was black. let's take the time to think about what Disney has in store for this movie down the road. I heard there might be a real-life Hercules movie coming out next year. Seeing how the world is now, will they take those five muses who might have put the holy spirit in people. Will they take those characters and change them to their liking or will they keep them the same. As we all saw with Mulan, people wanted a whole Asian cast from what I saw it wasn't that bad. The Little Mermaid might have a black Ariel and well we can hear all the people bad-mouthing that move. The way I see it, you can keep the movie the same or you can change it. What about you my readers, what would you do in that situation?
