Olivia Rodrigo isn't about to slow down any time soon. She revealed on Tuesday (April 13), only days after the release of her singles "Drivers License" and "Deja Vu," that her debut album, Sour, would be released on May 21.

The 18-year-old actress and singer-songwriter made the official announcement by posting the album's artwork on Instagram, after teasing the album's tracklist by giving fans letters to decipher. Rodrigo's face is coated in butterflies, stars, and heart stickers on the cover, which she sticks out to show the title pasted on it, evoking '90s teen nostalgia.

Olivia wrote on Instagram about the song, saying, "My debut album Sour comes out May 21 and I couldn't be more excited if I tried."

Rodrigo went on Instagram Live after the announcement to disclose that she composed the majority of the songs on Sour when she was 17 years old. "It's this really, like, bleak time of my life," she said, "which I think is why I liked the title." "I think you're going to really enjoy the [songs] on the album." I put in a lot of effort to write and deliver them in a specific way. I'm ecstatic. It's going to be a blast."

Her previous mega-hits "Deja Vu" and "Drivers License," both of which reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week, are included on the 11-track release. There's also a mix of new content and fan favourites from the past, such as the moving "Happier," which Rodrigo first posted online in 2020.

Olivia told MTV News that while she was initially concerned that the song's meteoric success would put her under pressure, it actually helped her discover what made her unique as an artist. “It gave me a lot of faith in my voice and in what makes my songwriting special, which I believe is my vulnerability and honesty,” she said. "Knowing that's what people connected with helps me with all of my other songs," she says.
