DMX is in the hospital in New York.
Following a suspected opioid overdose, DMX was admitted to a New York hospital.
Earl Simmons, the 50-year-old rapper, was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, New York, on Friday night (April 2) after suffering a heart attack caused by the OD, according to TMZ.
Representatives for DMX confirmed to Billboard that the rapper is currently in the hospital, but could not provide any further information about his condition.
The Yonkers-bred MC, who has a long history of substance abuse, has "some brain activity," according to one source, while another claims he's in a "vegetative state."
DMX was released from a West Virginia prison in early 2019 after spending a year in prison for federal tax evasion. He checked himself into treatment for drug abuse later that year, canceling a series of planned live shows.
Starting with his 1998 debut, It's Dark And Hell Is Heavy, DMX has had five No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart. In addition, 15 of his songs have charted on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Party (Up in Here)."
In addition to a prolific music career, the rapper has a long list of acting credits, including appearances in films such as Belly, Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, and Last Hour.
